A New Spelling Bee Is Coming Spring 2026.
Untapped and Advice Booth are putting a new spin on bar competition, but this time, it’s not just another trivia night. We’re excited to bring you a 21+ Adult Spelling Bee, taking place every First Sunday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at Advice Booth.
The Adult Spelling Bee will have four competitive rounds of single-error elimination: Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced. Competitors will use their mastery of spelling and grace under pressure to eliminate the competition, while enjoying delicious cocktails, local craft beer, and mocktails. The final speller standing walks away with a cash prize; there will also be other prizes for the 2nd and 3rd-placed spellers of the evening. But that’s not all: a portion of every entry fee from each spelling contestant will be donated to a local, Portland-based Non-Profit organization.

Watch for free! There is no entrance fee for spectators. Bring your friends to cheer you on, and heckle the competition! In a good-spirited manner, of course.

Ready to show off your Spelling Prowess? Registration for the spelling can be done in advance using the signup button below, or in person on the day of the event. Those who register in advance will receive a reduced entry fee.
Entry with Online Registration: $10.00 per contestant (pay when you arrive). Online Registration and its reduced entry fee will shut down 24 hours before the event date, at which point contestants must register in person at the event.
I can still do this: Any contestant is welcome to buy back into the competition if you have paid one of the above participation fees; you can buy back into the competition for a $10.00 re-entry fee (per round), even after being eliminated from rounds 1-3 (re-entry is not available for round four of the competition, as it’s the final round).
Spectators: There is no entrance fee for spectators. Bring your friends to cheer you on, and heckle the competition! In a good-spirited manner, of course.

Untapped Trivia will be hosting our Next Spelling Bee events on December 1, 2024. Please sign up below to let us know you will be attending. -
The Spelling Bee will follow a traditional format, with participants taking turns spelling words given by the moderator.
The Adult Spelling Bee will have four rounds of single-error elimination competition: Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced.
The contest is a single-error elimination.
Contestants will have approximately one minute with each word, of which 30 seconds is timed (The judge will read the word, give its definition, then use it in a sentence).
Once the judge finishes, the timer will put 30 seconds on the clock.
During this time, the contestant may ask the judges for derivation.
If contestants are in the middle of spelling at the end of 30 seconds, they will be allowed to finish at the judge’s discretion.
Failure to begin spelling the word by the end of 30 seconds will lead to elimination.
The last person standing is the winner for that round and will advance to the next round.
The event will consist of 4 rounds in total (with breaks in between) with each round increasing to more “difficult” words.
Spectators are welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite spellers.
